Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) Exams

MEPS psychiatric clearance evaluations are by referral only. Applicants cannot self-schedule or contact the clinic directly to request an evaluation. The only way to be seen for a MEPS consultation is through a direct referral from your MEPS station. For administrative questions about a confirmed referral appointment, contact the clinic at 318-507-0621 or admin@behavioralhealthclinicla.com.

Andrew J. Thrasher III, PhD conducts psychiatric clearance evaluations for Military Entrance Processing Stations in Bossier City, Louisiana. These evaluations are conducted in accordance with USMEPCOM guidelines and are required for applicants referred by MEPS for mental health consultation prior to military enlistment.

What to Expect
MEPS psychiatric clearance evaluations are forensic examinations conducted for the purpose of military enlistment clearance. They are not treatment appointments and do not result in ongoing care. The evaluation is conducted in person at Behavioral Health Clinic LLC and follows this sequence:

You will begin by completing intake paperwork and a brief interview with clinical staff. You will then complete psychological testing, which typically takes between one and two hours. Following the testing, Dr. Thrasher will conduct a clinical interview with you directly. Dr. Thrasher cannot discuss testing results with you but may follow up to clarify responses. All findings from both the testing and the interview are reported directly to MEPS.

Important Information for Applicants
In accordance with USMEPCOM guidelines, the following applies to all MEPS psychiatric consultations:

The provider will not discuss results, eligibility, branch of service, qualifications, or enlistment status with the applicant. Please do not ask for results at the conclusion of your appointment. All findings are reported directly to MEPS.

The provider is not authorized to treat any mental health or medical conditions identified during the evaluation.

Confidentiality is limited by the nature of this examination. The completed report is submitted directly to the referring agency only and is not available to the examinee or any other party. Dr. Thrasher is also mandated by law to report any disclosure of intent to harm yourself or others, and any disclosure of child or elder abuse.

Audio and video recording of examinations is not permitted.

For Minor Applicants
Any minor applicant referred for a MEPS consultation must present their DD Form 1966, Section VIII, Page 5, at the time of their appointment. If this form is not included with exam paperwork and the minor applicant does not have a physical copy, no services will be performed in strict accordance with USMEPCOM guidelines. Please confirm you have this document before your appointment date.

These services are scheduled through referring agency only and patients should contact their referring provider or agency with any scheduling questions.
