VA Compensation and Pension Evaluations

Behavioral Health Clinic LLC provides VA Compensation and Pension (C&P) mental health examinations for veterans throughout Louisiana, both in person at our Bossier City office and via telehealth. Andrew J. Thrasher III, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and combat-deployed Army veteran who conducts hundreds of C&P examinations annually for veterans seeking service-connected disability ratings.

C&P examinations are referral-based and scheduled through the VA or contracted providers. Veterans do not self-refer for these examinations. If you have been scheduled for a C&P mental health examination at Behavioral Health Clinic LLC, please bring a valid photo ID and arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

Important Information About Your C&P Examination
This examination is conducted solely for documentation and disability determination purposes. It is not a treatment appointment. Dr. Thrasher will not provide therapy, prescribe medications, or establish an ongoing treatment relationship as a result of this examination.

Due to the nature of C&P examinations, the completed report is submitted directly to the referring agency. Standard doctor-patient confidentiality applies with the following exceptions, which are required by law: Dr. Thrasher is mandated to report any disclosure of intent to harm yourself or others, and any disclosure of child or elder abuse.

Audio and video recording of examinations is not permitted.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
No administrative paperwork. You will not be asked to complete any intake forms or paperwork before your appointment. Simply bring a valid photo ID and arrive a few minutes early.

Your time is respected. Veteran appointments are prioritized and we work to keep wait times to a minimum.

Trauma is handled with care. Only Dr. Thrasher will ask questions related to your trauma history or military experiences. No other staff will ask you to discuss these matters.

Review exams are different. If you are already service-connected and scheduled for a review examination, the vast majority of veterans will not be asked to recount or reiterate their traumatic experiences unless you are claiming a new traumatic experience.

Psychological testing may be included. Depending on the nature of your claim, your examination may include objective psychological assessment instruments. All testing is administered after a clinical interview with Dr. Thrasher, and only if deemed necessary and appropriate for the specific claim. Dr. Thrasher will explain any testing before it begins.
